Beyonce vs Swift
Yea yea I know this topic has been blogged straight into the ground. It’s probably the most significant pop culture event of the year, even rivaling the deaths of MJ and HL. So in my travels of the internet, reading hundreds of tweets, blogs, and other miscellaneous internet crap that try to explain what an asshole kanye is or how white people should not buy black peoples albums(?) I realized that I had never listened to either of the songs in question and had not even seen a music video since high school. With that realization in hand, I turned my attention to google. I asked google to show me the Taylor Swift “You Belong with me” video and Beyonces “Single Ladies” video. All I can say is…what the fuck.
Single Ladies.
- The song.
- Props to Producer, Christopher Stewart, the song is pretty sick. It’s an old flare Hip-Hop beat that catches you off guard with some really clever modern transitions. Lyrically, its atrocious. It’s some sort of confusing feminist rant that dehumanizes woman every time the chorus comes in. “If you like it then why don’t you put a ring on it?”
- The Video.
- Best video of the year? Really? Shes just fucking dancing. Like I guess it’s good dancing but seriously? If ‘The Thong Song’ video were in black and white would Sisqo have won best video? (The thong song won best Hip Hop Video) Like is it artistic? Am I missing the interpretive dance part of it? No I’m fucking not. She’s just fucking dancing like a whore.
You Belong With Me.
- The Song.
- This song would have been great if it came out in 1999 and were on the ‘Varsity Blues’ soundtrack. Taylor Swift is a fucking tool. She’s probably a nice girl and everything but damn. I don’t know if you wrote that song Taylor, and I hope for your sake that you didn’t, because it’s a generic piece of crap.
- The Video.
- The video is cute, like Disney Channel cute. If you don’t think its cute then you have no soul.
So now after reviewing these songs and videos the whole kanye incident makes even less sense to me. Kanye said Beyonce’s music video was the best of all time…huh? They are both fucking bad and don’t deserver anywhere near the amount of attention they are getting. Oh yea and did you hear that patrick swayze died? Prepare yourself for a plethora of ‘Ghost’ jokes in the coming weeks.
